Wittgenstein on being and time

Jaakko Hintikka

pp. 241-274

Abstract

This paper is an attempt to understand Wittgenstein's conception of time during the different periods of his philosophical activity. This concept offers a highly interesting perspective on Wittgenstein's philosophy in general. Among other things, it played a crucial role in the development of Wittgenstein's philosophy. In particular, Wittgenstein's ideas about time were instrumental in shaping his changing concept of object. I will also try to put Wittgenstein's ideas about time in a wider (and deeper) theoretical perspective.
