A paradox of cognition

Nicholas Rescher

pp. 3-6

Abstract

The paper deals with variations on the theme of the ironic circumstance that the more we know the ampler our realization of the extent of our ignorance. For, as Kant already observed, every answer to our questions provides new materials for the development of further questions. The expansion of our knowledge thus brings the lineaments of our ignorance even more clearly into sight.
