Verification in Schutz

Lester Embree

pp. 159-170

Abstract

Since some colleagues believe that Schutz's postulate of adequacy is what might be called the postulate of verification, the first part of this chapter is devoted to showing that the adequacy that this postulate establishes can also be expressed as mere plausibility. Then, since Schutz clearly has a place for verification even though he does not offer a postulate for it, the attempt is made to interpret what verification nevertheless signifies for him.
